NIH Evening Speakers Club History
In 1982, the Club was chartered by Dr. Padman Sarma, a world-renowned scientist specializing in caner research, who also founded the NIH club in 1969. Since then, many members have benefited from the Toastmasters program and become confident speakers.
General Club Information
NIH Evening Speakers Club usually meets at NIH, Room 3-1608, Building 10/ Hatfield Center, 9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20872 on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. The meetings start at 7:30 p.m. Currently there are about 27 experienced and new members in the club. We have had a mentor system in place, in which each new member is assigned to an experienced member and receives advice on a needed basis. It is our mission - providing an encouraging, friendly environment to new members for advancing communication and leadership skills. We are a small international community that several members were born and raised in countries other than the United States. We are a diverse and unique group that members come from a wide range of professions. But we all have the same goal - to be a better speaker and leader.
